Derbyshire Befriending Statement Regarding Derbyshire County Council’s Decision to end Discretionary Grant Funding for Befriending
Derbyshire Befriending is disappointed to learn that the outcome of the Derbyshire County Council consultation on discretionary grant funding has resulted in the end of funding to some befriending organisations in Derbyshire.
This will have an impact on a number of our members and may result in the closure of services leaving many vulnerable, isolated and lonely people without their befriender. For many people this is their only link into the outside world and their wider community. It will also leave valuable specialist volunteers without a service to volunteer in. It will also put further pressure on those organisations that do manage to continue to deliver a service, many of which already operate waiting lists.
Although Derbyshire Befriending is a relatively new organisations and still developing in its own right, we want to pledge our commitment to supporting befriending organisations and would encourage any organisations affected to contact us if they'd like to discuss.
